short hair style –> twisted updo.

I had originally planned on sharing another hair tutorial today, but Tuesday’s #coasttocoastchallenge (I know you can’t use hashtags in blog posts, stop it) was “romantics” and this style just feels very Romeo and Juliet to me. So I decided to share!

This one works best on most hair types, but I personally prefer to do it on dirty and curly hair. Like this was day three of no-washing, dry shampoo build up. I know. I’m gross. *high five* It just stays better!

Like I said, begin with slightly dirty hair that has a lot of texture. (I had done mine in messy curls a few days before.) Using your fingers, work the front part of your hair forward a bit.

Starting at the front, twist your hair back piece by piece. Don’t worry about making perfect rolls, and don’t roll it too tight. Stick a bobby pin in there every 1-2 inches or so.

Continue doing this until you reach the nape of your neck, then do the same to the other side. You’ll have a really cool mullet.

Now use the same technique used for the simple updo and twist little pigtails into your hair and cross them over each other, tucking the ends in. Pin with bobby pins.

Loosen up the style by gently pulling at the hair on the crown of you head to give it some volume. Pull out a few pieces to frame your face, and set with hairspray!

(To get the look in the first photo, just add a headband before you begin. Easy peasy.)

Other short hair styles: messy curls, simple updo, faux side shave.

  1. I’ve had my hair cropped pretty short for awhile now, but this hairstyle alone is enough to make me want to grow it out a few inches…

I really love this hairstyle! I’m thinking about trying this out later on, even though my hair is evil and is never under my control.

Had to follow your blog on bloglovin’, it’s a must read for me.

  4. Diggin’ this! Can’t wait to try some of your hair ideas when my pixie grows out. I’m also loving the white blonde/ dark brow combo. It makes me wanna go platinum again.. sigh.
