short hair style –> messy curls.

As much as I love scouring Pinterest, I can’t help but admit to getting a little frustrated at the hair section. Where are all the ways to style short hair?! I’ve been a short-haired gal for 4.5 years and you can do so much more than just “add a headband”. Over the next few weeks I want to share some of my tried and true short hair styles!

Some side notes: I currently have an inverted bob, but I’ve worn most of these styles with various hair lengths. (I’ve had everything from a shaggy crop to almost shoulder length bob in the last few years.) I also have very very fine and straight hair, but most of these work on various hair types.

Today I’m sharing one of my favorite ways to wear my hair. This is a great style if you’re a fine haired lady who longs for a little volume! It doesn’t hurt if you don’t mind messy hair. ;) This look was inspired by Elizabeth over at Delightfully Tacky…she has the best curls!

(And please ignore my roots.. It’s about time to bust out the bleach again.)

Start out with clean, straight hair. Section off 1-2in pieces and use a flat iron to curl the hair from root to tip. I always start with the sides and then finish the back using a handheld mirror. For the shorter parts on the back that won’t wrap around the flat iron, just curl them under.

After all the hair has been curled, let your hair cool down so the curls set. (I usually do my makeup while waiting.) Take your favorite volumizing powder, I use got2be’s version, flip your head over and apply the powder to your roots. You may have to “de-fluff” your hair after this step, as it makes your hair pretty big! Use a little hairspray to scrunch some of the curls and set everything.

This style does take a few minutes, but I’ve found I can wear it this way 3-4 days only using a little dry shampoo in the mornings. (I hate washing my hair!)

I’ll be sharing an alternate way to wear this style next week!

love this! You make it look so great, and easy lol. I have tried that but maybe its harder cause my hair is thick?! I cut all my hair off now and you make me wanna grow it again so I can try this haha!

Well now, that is lovely. You make me want to chop and bob my hair…and go blonde for the first time! This style is so cute and looks easy enough to do within a few minutes. Love it!

Ugh…so jealous! My hair is so thick and curly but for some unknown reason, will NOT hold curl unless it’s my natural crazy curls. Like, if you try to curl my hair with a curling iron, it’s flat in about 30 minutes. But I’m wondering if this might work. Hmmm

  5. Oh man, what a life saver. I have super thin/fine hair and it’s been in a short a-line cut for about 2 and a half years. I always have the hardest time finding things to do with it, as much as I love it. I’ve never had much luck with curls because they just don’t seem to stay in, but I’ll definitely give this a shot. Any suggestions on what to do with my bangs? They go straight across

What size/brand of flat iron do you use?

What size straightener do you use? It looks like it might be about 1/2 an inch smaller than mine, but i cant tell. I have the same haircut and length as yours, and would like to try this. I love it!
