Realistically there are about a million and a half (okay, not that many) various recipes for Butterbeer on Pinterest. I eventually tried a recipe that involved cream soda + imitation butter extract, but it tasted like someone dropped their popcorn into my cream soda. I took about three sips and dumped it out. :/ So I’m sticking with the original recipe I came up with, and it’s pretty stinkin similar to the one I drank at Wizarding World!

What you’ll need:
cream soda
butterscotch topping
heavy cream

First, make your “foam”. This was probably the best part about the Butterbeer, honestly! You’ll need about 2 tablespoons of butterscotch topping per 1/2 cup of heavy whipping cream. Whip the cream and butterscotch together for just a few minutes, until it thickens somewhere between what you started with and whipped cream. You can also sweeten it more if you like.

Now for the Butterbeer!

Heat about 1-2 tablespoons of the butterscotch topping (depending on how “buttery” you want it) in a cup for about 30 seconds, just long enough to let it liquify a bit.

Pour the cream soda (slowly!) over the butterscotch and stir well. (You can toss a couple of ice cubes in if you want it ice cold. It was almost room temp served at Wizarding World and J.K. Rowling approved, so I’m going with that.)

Top with a bit of the “foam” and try not to drink gallons of it in one afternoon.

P.S. I have a tendency to assume everyone knows what Butterbeer is…it’s a popular drink in the Harry Potter series, for all you non-Harry Potter fans. You shameful people, you. ;)
(Kidding.)

I saw a girl wearing a skirt similar to this while we were in Disney World and I immediately told Steph and Shay I was going to make one. I’ve found lately if I see something I like, I have to evaluate it to figure out if I could make it before I buy it. Needless to say, this skirt cost me about $8 and half an hour. ;)

What you’ll need:
basic sweatshirt (mine is just a Hanes one from Walmart, but it’d be easy to thrift one)
decorative trim
pins
scissors
sewing machine
thread

Cut the top part off your sweatshirt, right under the arms. Since the bottom part of the sweatshirt serves as the top of your skirt, make sure the length from the armpits to the bottom of the shirt will be a long enough skirt for you! (I’m 5’3″ and bought a medium sweatshirt, if that helps.)

Cut down the middle of the shirt, then measure your waist. Cut your shirt about two inches smaller than your waistline.

Take the leftover piece of fabric that you’ve just cut off, fold it in half lengthwise, and cut it into a triangle. (The band will be the smallest part of your triangle.) Turn your fabric inside out and stitch the pieces together, trimming where necessary.

Flip the skirt right side in and pin your trim along the edges. Stitch the trim on and you’re all set!

I’m kind of looking forward to wearing this with some colored tights and some kind of patterned shirt. Maybe an outfit post soon?

I’ve known of Ingrid Michaelson for years but never listened to her music for some reason. Heather played her “Girls and Boys” album on our Nashville road trip and I immediately downloaded it as soon as I got home. I feel like I’ve been missing out all these years!

Here’s one of my favorite songs on the album!
