I still have a few more to edit from this shoot, but I really wanted to get a blog written up tonight!
I’ve been planning this shoot with The Revolving for a couple of months now (we had to cancel a few weeks ago when I was sick)…I’ve truly enjoyed working with these guys! I think we kind of had the same mindset when it came to this shoot, so it was fun to play around with some ideas. I loved that they didn’t think I was crazy when I drug a curtain into the middle of a bunch of trees, started shooting through the viewfinder of an old camera, made them climb on a roof, or used my headlights as lighting. (Again, I know.)
Awesome awesome group of guys!
These are just a few that stood out to me…still getting some editing done!
And since I’ve been asked frequently and I still don’t have it listed on my pricing yet (working on it), I’m currently charging $200 for band/musician promos…this includes the shoot and a CD with up to 30 edited images. This is a temporary price, as I’m still doing some portfolio building, but I’ll let ya know when that changes. :)
I am thoroughly enjoying my time off, which is kind of humorous considering a few months ago I was pulling my hair out if I had to be home longer than 12 hours. I’m weird. Ah well.
Heather and I roamed around Hobby Lobby in OKC for half an hour the other day while I looked for some stockings for me and the pups. I left with navy blue tulle, a roll of blue cellophane, and this:

Did not come home with stockings, however. No clue.
So all I did yesterday was hang my gigantic world map, watch a movie, and be lazy with the dogs. They love the fort as much as their momma.
Didn’t even leave the house today, but I got a little painting done. Still working on this one…it’s a little different than my normal stuff, but I’m still trying to figure out my “style” I suppose.
And I worked on my new travel journal for next year…it’s filled with lots of little pockets for instax photos and flight ticket stubs. ;)

The best part…I had put off buying this book in Goodwill for several weeks and finally caved. It was lost in my messy car for a couple of weeks, and I just now opened it up.
It’s actually a book of letters from missionaries in the 50s. There was a letter written from Ethiopia. How freeeaaakin awesome is that?! I left the Ethiopia section intact. So cool.
Annnd, I finished this 10×10 painting that I started last Spring.
I debated keeping it, but I have no wall space in my house. haha. So since I don’t have an etsy shop any more, if anyone would like it I’m asking $30 (plus shipping). Just click “inbox” on my menu bar up there and shoot me an email. :)
Last but not least…family photos.
(An attempt anyway.)
peace.

I don’t even remember the last time I did maternity photos, so I was super excited when Cassi emailed me! I was honestly a little bummed that it was SO COLD the night we did these! I cannot function when it’s cold…it’s so pathetic. Thankfully we just did a mini-session so we didn’t freeze too badly.
Cassi has that beautiful light green eye color that looks AMAZING in photographs! Isn’t she a cute mommy-to-be? :)
Cassi and her hubby also wanted a few shots with their first child. Penelope was quite the diva. ;)
Proofs are going up now, girl!
Took a minute to get some shots of all my thrifted shtuff from this weekend this evening. I’m getting excited about my slowly but surely growing collection of vintage clothes! Going to have to stop spending money on that kind of stuff for a bit…time to start Christmas shopping!
Anyway..

Turquoise belt, two button downs, gray belt with a cute little chain, vintage (1960s) pleated skirt, leather purse, annnd a sweet bowl and mug. And some new paint trays. ;)
Less than $30 for it all. Fun stuff.
Oh, and I made dinner tonight for the first time in…umm…awhile..
Baked salmon, creamy tomato pasta, and green beans. I fully plan on finishing off the leftovers tomorrow.
So, I had an idea a few months ago that has kind of been lingering over my head as of late. I don’t know if anyone has ever attempted this, but I thought it could be fun to do for a month or two, maybe during this summer? I’m blabbering, I haven’t even said what it is yet…goodness. Well. I’ve always wanted to go on tour with a band, but that opportunity has yet to present itself, and I would obviously need to be doing something to make money while I travel around the country…so I’m thinking of doing a photography tour of sorts? Does this make sense? I’ll figure out which states I’ll drive through, book shoots and/or one-on-one workshops accordingly, and just charge a bit more than my usual session fee to cover gas. Would anyone be interested in this or am I just crazy?
Ah, enough blabbering. Miss Jane and I are about to watch a movie in the ol’ fort. Lazy time!
peace.

Little bit ‘o background: Kelly is the sister of my dear friend Dana. Dana is a member of my beloved Ethiopia ’08 family. She lets me crash at her place every time I’m in Nashville, she never questions my choice to sleep on her couch by the Christmas tree instead of in her guest bed, she holds my hand and lets me curse in her ear when I’m being forced to pet a sting ray, and I recently learned she shares my love for Patrick Park. She lights up my life.
Kelly emailed me about traveling to her hometown of Cleveland, TN to do their engagement photos and I about peed myself from excitement. Partly because that meant a trip to Tennessee (I really love Tennessee, in case that isn’t obvious at this point) and partly because it feels really awesome when someone specifically wants you to do their photos. So…yea…peed a little, agreed to the shoot, and prepared Petri for another road trip.
I would say the 14 hour drive was compleeettteeellly worth it.
Had to have a photo by himself. Whatta diva.
And this shoot completely would not have happened without my ever-helpful assistant, Dana.
(In all reality, she just played on her phone half the time. But if I wasn’t such a do-it-myself type, she would have had her work cut out for her!)
Kelly and Kyle, thanks a CRAP TON for letting me come visit and do these photos for you guys. It was one of my favorite shoots to date. Fo realz.
FYI, I’m still working on details about doing one-on-one workshops. I’ve been slightly overwhelmed/blown away at all the interest (I really don’t think you guys know what you’re getting yourselves into) but it’s definitely a go. I’ve got a ton of free time this month so I’m going to work on getting all the details worked out and start sign-ups. I’m looking at starting the workshops next Spring. Soon, little ducklings..
I’m quite bummed that I ended up missing out on Help-Portrait in OKC today. (Hi, I’m Amanda and I’ve suddenly picked up a fun habit of sleeping through my alarm.) I remember Jeremy Cowart talking about it during his workshop last year (so WEIRD that that was one year ago) and it ended up being a much bigger deal than he had planned. This year all 50 states and somewhere around 80 countries participated…so incredible. I can’t wait to read all the stories over the next couple of days.
Despite that, I had quite a lovely day…lunch with Heather and Cashew and Heather’s fam, some vintage shopping and thrifting (I’ll share all my fun finds next time, forgot to take photos!), the most amazing pumpkin chai tea EVERRR, cupcakes, and then I taught Heather how to make tissue paper snowflakes. I don’t know how a 21 year old doesn’t know how to make snowflakes, but I didn’t question it too much. OH! And I got to pet a baby owl tonight..
How SWEET is he?! Ohmygoodness. I had completely had to contain myself. I was so happy.
Annnnd here’s this week’s 52weeks submission. Played with a little TTV for the first time.
I’ve still got a few more sessions to edit…a sweet maternity shoot, some promos with an amazing local band, and a really random last-minute just-for-the-hell-of-it shoot with Heather. Good stuff, kids.
And of course…this is all coming to you from Fort Nightdweller.
Over ‘n out.
peace.

Three and a half hours, nine sheets, seven blankets, and almost 100f feet of Christmas lights later…
I won’t be leaving it unless absolutely necessary.
The Christmas tree went up too! I’ve had this tree for three years and I’ve never had a tree topper. So I spray painted an owl piggy bank I found a few months ago and perched him on top. :)
;)
peace.
